Access to basic services such as health-, rehabilitation and education is a prerequisite for health, wellbeing and social inclusion in society. In poor countries, the large majority may lack access to such services, or existing services often have poor quality because of weak infra structure and lack of human and material resources. Individuals with disability are among a range of vulnerable groups that is particularly exposed to a gap in services, because of various forms of exclusion mechanisms. Research on the actual situation as well as on the mechanisms linking poverty and disability together is needed in order to create awareness and inform development of policy and measures to ensure that also vulnerable groups obtain their right to basic services. The presentation will include results from many years of research on disability and poverty in poor countries in Africa.<\/p>\n
